The 8th annual Fire on the Mountain 50k will take place on November 4, 2018. It is a 32.8 mile out-and-back trail race which takes place in the Green Ridge State Forest in Maryland.
The elevation profile is pretty interesting. There will be several short steep climbs as well as a large climb and descent in the middle of the race. Check it out.
I am really excited for this race. I have the Morgantown Marathon this weekend and then I get solid 6 weeks to train specifically for this. There will be 2 or 3 guys there that I beat at my first 50k but beat me in my second. It’s time for redemption. I want this one so bad, more than I have ever wanted a race.
I want to prove to myself that I am an ultra marathon runner; that this isn’t just a passing hobby that I’ll do this year. There are so many reasons why I love this sport. You go through a lot of emotions during a race and you want to quit at times. But the highs are stronger than the lows and that is what keeps me coming back each race.
The course record was set in 2014 by Michael Daigeaun with a time of 4:31:59.5. I know I won’t be breaking any records but my goal is to be under 5:30:00. My fastest 50k is 5:31 and I know each race is different, but with the cooler fall weather and some serious dedication to training after this weekend’s marathon, I’m hopeful I’ll be able to do it.
